What do you stand for? Standing for something is different than merely believing in it. You may have many beliefs in life, but are you willing to stand up for them and even die for them? As the saying goes, “If you stand for nothing, then you will fall for anything.” This is true in many aspects of life, but certainly regarding Christianity. Paul reminds the Corinthians that they did not only receive the Gospel, but they also stand in it and are being saved by it (1 Corinthians 15:1–3). It is vitally important that we understand what we stand for and teach others to do the same.
We must stand firm in the faith (1 Cor 16:13). There is only one faith and one way to God (Eph. 4:5; John 14:6).
We must stand against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11). Satan is the god of this world, the father of lies, and he must be opposed at every turn (2 Cor. 4:4; John 8:44; James 4:7; 1 Peter 5:8–9).
We must stand firm in one spirit, with one mind striving side by side for the faith of the Gospel (Phil 1:27). The church must be unified with one mind teaching sound doctrine (John 17:21; 1 Cor. 1:10; 1 Tim.
6:3).
We must stand mature and fully assured in all the will of God (Col. 4:12). God’s inspired Word is the source of truth where we find God’s revealed will for us (2 Tim. 3:16–17; John 17:17; Rom. 12:2)
We must stand firm and hold to the traditions that we were taught by the inspired writers and teachers (2 Thess. 2:15). The church must not hold to any manmade doctrines, but only teach what has been taught by God through those whom he sent (1 Cor. 4:6; Matt. 15:8–9; Jude 3–4). Do not take lightly the call to stand fast in the Lord (1 Thess. 3:8).
It will be before God that we either stand or fall (Rom. 14:4), but the good news is that we will be upheld because he is the one who causes us to stand (Rom. 14:4). Do not be ruled by fear, cowardice, or timidity, because we stand fully equipped with the armor of God (Eph. 6:13). Stand for God.
